Best Cozi alternatives for families in 2026

Tired of typing school emails into Cozi?

Forward one school newsletter to Sense and watch the events appear in your family calendar.

"Instead of spending hours digging through my inbox for assignment due dates or events, everything now flows seamlessly into one organized family calendar. So much less stress."Sense review on Google Play

Quick Summary

  • Best overall Cozi alternative: Sense - forward school emails, photos, PDFs and WhatsApp messages and the events land on a shared family calendar. 10 a month free, unlimited on Premium. No ads and no 30-day cap.
  • Best all-in-one with location sharing: FamilyWall - calendar, lists and chat free, with location sharing and email import on Premium.
  • Best pure shared calendar: TimeTree - clean, free with ads, with comments on events. Everything typed by hand.
  • Best free basics: Google Calendar or Apple Calendar - already on your phone, nothing for kids or lists.
  • Want a wall screen? Skylight Calendar - $149.99 to $599.99 hardware plus $79 a year for the features that matter.
  • Do not move to Maple. It shuts down on December 31, 2026.

Just weighing the two? Read Sense vs Cozi for the side-by-side.

Most Cozi alternatives just move the typing somewhere else. You leave because the free calendar stopped at 30 days, or because the family's lists started vanishing, and you land in another app where every school date still goes in by hand.

We tested the apps families actually name when they talk about leaving Cozi in 2026, and ranked them on one question: how much of the family's schedule gets onto the calendar without a parent typing it. Prices are in US dollars.

We make Sense, so this is not a neutral review. We checked every competitor's prices and features on their own website or App Store listing on October 29, 2026.

Why families are leaving Cozi in 2026

Cozi pioneered the shared family calendar, and plenty of families are still happy on it. The ones searching for an alternative usually hit one of these:

  • The 30-day calendar cap. Free accounts can only add, edit and view events in the next 30 days. Anything further out, like the spring concert or the camp week, sits behind Cozi Gold at $39 a year.
  • Ads. The free app shows ads. Gold removes them.
  • Sync and reliability complaints. Through late 2025 and 2026, app store reviews describe list items disappearing, events not showing for other family members, blank widgets and login loops. Many come from multi-year Gold subscribers.
  • Still manual. Cozi's AI Event Import is only on the $79.99 a year Max plan and only in the mobile app. On Free and Gold you type every event.
  • Getting your data out is hard. The calendar feed is read-only, and lists and recipes do not come with it. Our guide on exporting your Cozi calendar covers the workarounds.

What about Maple? Maple shows up on a lot of older "Cozi alternative" lists and in AI-generated answers. It will sunset on December 31, 2026 and delete all user data, so it is not a place to move a family to. We have left it out of the rankings.

Our Pick

1. Sense - Best overall Cozi alternative for school and activity email

Free (no ads, 10 AI actions a month) / Premium $6.99 a month or $59.99 a year for the whole family

Full disclosure: this is our app. The reason it ranks first is simple: it is the only app on this list where capture is included on the free plan (10 a month, unlimited on Premium). Forward a school newsletter, snap a flyer, drop in a PDF schedule, paste a screenshot, or share a WhatsApp message, and every date, deadline and to-do lands on the shared family calendar with the right kid attached.

Sense also comes with an AI you can ask "what's on this week?" or "what does Ethan need for the field trip?", plus reminders, lists, notes and recipes on the free tier. Chores, routines, rewards and allowance, meal planning, documents and medications are Premium. Sense Hub (Premium) turns an old iPad or Android tablet into an always-on kitchen display, and Kid Mode gives each child their own screen without a login.

Moving from Cozi takes a few minutes: subscribe to your Cozi calendar feed inside Sense, or forward the confirmation emails you already have and let Sense rebuild the calendar.

Strengths

  • Email, photo, PDF, screenshot and WhatsApp to calendar, 10 a month free
  • AI chat for schedule questions, meals and homework
  • Chores, rewards, allowance and meal plans in the same app
  • Sense Hub display on a tablet you already own (Premium)
  • No ads, no 30-day cap

Limitations

  • Launched in 2025, so a smaller track record than Cozi
  • Family-level features like chores and meal planning are Premium
  • You have to forward things to it, which takes a week to become a habit
Best for: Families buried in school and activity email who want the calendar to fill itself, and who want chores, meals and a kitchen display in one place.

"Between three different schools, three different sports, and a family business, there's always a lot going on, and having it all in one place has made a big difference. It's become more than a family calendar - it's helping our kids learn to manage their own schedules and become more independent." - Sense review on the App Store

2. FamilyWall - Best all-in-one with location sharing

Free / Premium $7.99 a month or $44.99 a year

FamilyWall is the closest thing to a straight Cozi replacement: a shared calendar, to-dos, shopping lists, a recipe box, a family chat thread, photo gallery and contacts on the free tier, with a meal planner, budget, document storage, location sharing and Google and Outlook sync on Premium.

Its real differentiator is the family map. Premium adds location sharing with arrival and departure alerts ("Mia arrived at school"), which is why it is popular with parents of tweens and teens. In July 2026 FamilyWall added Magic Import on Premium, so you can forward emails, including PDF or image attachments, to your family's address and have events created, up to 1,000 imports a month.

What it lacks is an AI you can ask questions, any kind of rewards or allowance system for chores, and an always-on display mode.

Strengths

  • Broadest free feature set on this list
  • Location sharing and arrival alerts on Premium
  • Email import on Premium since July 2026
  • Google and Outlook sync on Premium

Limitations

  • Location sharing, meal planner and calendar sync are Premium
  • No AI chat, no photo or WhatsApp capture
  • Chores are checklists only, no points or rewards
Best for: Families with older kids where "where are you?" is the daily question, who want chat and calendar in one app. Read our full Sense vs FamilyWall comparison.

3. TimeTree - Best pure shared calendar

Free with ads / Premium $4.49 a month or $44.99 a year

TimeTree does one thing well: a clean shared calendar that several people can edit, with a comment thread on every event. When practice moves from Tuesday to Thursday, the back-and-forth lives on the event instead of in a group text. You can run separate calendars for the household, each kid's sport, and just the parents.

It can also show your Google Calendar events through your phone's calendar. The trade-off is that TimeTree is only a calendar. There are no lists, meal plans, chores or kids' features, and every event is typed in by hand.

Strengths

  • Simple and fast, easy for a reluctant partner to adopt
  • Comments on events, file attachments on Premium
  • Shows Google Calendar events via your phone
  • Multiple shared calendars

Limitations

  • No lists, chores or meal planning
  • Manual entry for everything
  • Ads on the free tier
  • Premium is needed to remove ads
Best for: Families who only used Cozi's calendar and want something lighter. See Sense vs TimeTree for the details.

4. Google Calendar - Best free option if you just need a shared calendar

Free

You probably already have it. Create a shared "Family" calendar, invite your partner, and everyone can see and add events. It syncs with everything, it is reliable, and it costs nothing.

It is not a family organizer, though. There are no shared lists, chores or meal plans, kids need their own Google accounts, and Gmail only auto-creates events from confirmations like flights, hotel and restaurant reservations and tickets, not from a school newsletter. Many families keep Google Calendar and put a family app on top of it; Sense, FamilyWall and TimeTree all sync with it.

Strengths

  • Free and already installed
  • Rock-solid sync and sharing
  • Works with nearly every other app
  • Gmail bookings and tickets appear automatically

Limitations

  • Not built for families
  • No lists, chores or meal planning
  • Kids need Google accounts
  • School emails still typed in by hand
Best for: Families already living in Gmail who just need basic shared scheduling. Read Sense vs Google Calendar if you are deciding between the two.

5. Apple Calendar and Reminders - Best for all-iPhone households

Free with iCloud

If everyone in the house has an iPhone, a shared iCloud calendar takes about a minute to set up and needs no new app. Pair it with a shared Reminders list for groceries and you have covered the two things most families used Cozi for.

It stops there. No chores, no meal planning, no family-specific views, and it gets awkward the moment a teenager shows up with an Android phone. Siri can add events by voice, but nothing reads a school email for you.

Strengths

  • Zero setup on iPhone
  • Shared Reminders lists for groceries
  • Siri for quick voice entry
  • Tight Maps, Contacts and Focus integration

Limitations

  • Apple-only households
  • No chores, meals or kids' features
  • Manual entry for everything
  • Weak on the web and on Android
Best for: All-Apple families who want frictionless shared scheduling without installing anything.

6. Skylight Calendar - Best if you want a dedicated wall screen

10 inch Calendar $149.99, Calendar 2 (15 inch) $299.99, Calendar Max (27 inch) $599.99, plus Skylight Plus $79 a year

Skylight is the touchscreen calendar you have seen on Instagram: a 10, 15 or 27 inch display for the kitchen counter or wall showing the family calendar, chores, lists and photos. The hardware is good and kids genuinely use it, because it is on the wall rather than in a parent's pocket.

The catch is the subscription. Magic Import with the Sidekick assistant (forwarded emails, PDFs and photos of flyers), meal planning, rewards and the photo screensaver all need Skylight Plus at $79 a year, billed annually. Without it, the screen is a shared calendar with manual entry. We break down what is free and what is not in our Skylight subscription guide.

Strengths

  • Always-on display the whole family sees
  • Email, PDF and flyer photo import with Plus
  • Chore chart kids tap on the screen, rewards with Plus
  • Syncs Google, Apple, Outlook, Yahoo and Cozi calendars

Limitations

  • $149.99 to $599.99 before any software
  • Plus is $79 a year, annual only
  • Sidekick and Magic Import need Plus
Best for: Families who want one dedicated screen and are fine paying for hardware and a yearly plan. If you only want the wall display, Sense Hub does it on a tablet you already own. See Sense vs Skylight.

7. Cozi Gold or Cozi Max - If you decide to stay and pay

Free with ads and a 30-day calendar / Gold $39 a year / Max $79.99 a year

Sometimes the right move is to stop fighting the free tier. Cozi Gold removes ads, lifts the 30-day cap, adds calendar search, a mobile month view and change notifications, and one upgrade covers the whole family. If the meal planner and grocery list are what your family lives in, Gold is the cheapest way to keep them.

Cozi Max is where the AI lives: Event Import from emails, PDFs and flyer photos, an AI Recipe Creator and an AI Meal Planner. The AI features only work in the mobile app, and Max costs about the same as Skylight Plus. Before paying, read the recent reviews on Cozi's sync problems, because Max does not fix those. Our Cozi Gold vs Max guide goes deeper.

Strengths

  • Familiar, the whole family already knows it
  • Shared shopping lists and recipe library
  • Gold is cheap and covers the whole family
  • Max adds email and flyer import

Limitations

  • Sync and reliability complaints through 2026
  • AI import is Max-only and mobile-only
  • No points, rewards or allowance for chores
  • No always-on display mode
Best for: Families who mostly want Cozi without the cap and the ads, and are not hitting the sync issues.

The long version, including where Cozi wins, is in Sense vs Cozi (2026).

How to pick the right Cozi alternative

Start with what broke

If it was the 30-day cap or the ads, TimeTree or Google Calendar fix that for free. If it was the typing, only apps with capture on the plan you will actually pay for help: Sense on the free plan (10 a month) or Premium, FamilyWall on Premium, Skylight with Plus, Cozi itself on Max.

Count the plans, not the app price

Skylight is hardware plus a yearly plan. Cozi Max costs about the same as Skylight Plus. Sense and FamilyWall cover the whole family on one subscription. Work out the yearly number for your household before comparing.

Will the other parent open it?

The best family app is the one both adults use. Manual-entry apps fail because one parent becomes the data-entry department. Capture-first apps spread the load: whoever gets the email forwards it, and everyone sees the result.

Check the exit before you enter

Cozi taught a lot of families that lock-in hurts. Prefer apps that export a calendar feed and sync with Google or Apple, so the next move, if there is one, is easy.

Our honest take

There is no single best family organizer for everyone. TimeTree is great if you only ever used Cozi's calendar. FamilyWall is the pick if location sharing matters. Google or Apple Calendar are fine if your needs are genuinely simple. Skylight makes sense if you know you want a wall screen and will pay for Plus.

We built Sense because we were the parents typing every practice change and school date into a calendar by hand. If that is the part of Cozi you are trying to escape, forward one school email and see whether the calendar filling itself changes your week. The free plan covers 10 a month, and you will know within a day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Cozi alternative in 2026?

Sense ranks first because it captures events from school emails, photos, PDFs, screenshots and WhatsApp messages (10 a month on the free plan, unlimited on Premium), with no ads and no 30-day calendar cap. FamilyWall is the closest like-for-like replacement, and TimeTree or Google Calendar are the best free picks if you only need a shared calendar.

Why are families leaving Cozi?

Two waves. In 2024 Cozi restricted its free tier so non-paying users only see 30 days of calendar, pushing full access behind Cozi Gold at $39 per year. Then through late 2025 and 2026, app store reviews filled with sync and reliability complaints - list items disappearing, events not showing for other family members, blank widgets, and login loops - with long-time paying subscribers saying they are canceling.

Is there a free Cozi alternative without ads?

Yes. Sense is free with no ads and no calendar cap, and includes reminders, lists, notes and recipes plus 10 AI captures a month. Google Calendar and Apple Calendar are also free and ad-free, but they are plain calendars with no lists or kids' features.

Which Cozi alternative reads school emails automatically?

Sense does it on the free plan for 10 a month, unlimited on Premium: forward a newsletter, principal email or activity schedule and the AI adds every date to the family calendar. FamilyWall Premium and Skylight Plus can import forwarded emails too, and Cozi's own Max plan adds AI Event Import in the mobile app.

Is there a free Cozi alternative that does meal planning?

Not fully free. Sense's free tier includes recipes and lists, and meal planning is part of Sense Premium at $6.99 a month or $59.99 a year with a free trial. FamilyWall's meal planner is Premium. Cozi's free tier has a recipe library next to ads and the 30-day calendar cap, and its AI Meal Planner is on the $79.99 a year Max plan.

Can I move my Cozi calendar to another app?

Partly. Cozi can share a read-only calendar feed you can subscribe to from Sense, Google Calendar or FamilyWall. Lists and recipes do not come across in the feed. Our Cozi export guide walks through it, and this help article covers importing into Sense.

Is Maple a good Cozi alternative?

Not anymore. Maple will sunset on December 31, 2026 and delete all user data. If you are already on Maple, see our guide to moving off Maple before then.
