Smore newsletters

The Smore newsletter is twelve sections long. Sense reads all of them.

Teachers, principals and the PTA love Smore, so every week brings more of them. Forward the email to Sense, even when it is only a "view newsletter" link, and every date in it lands on your family calendar.

The volume

Why the newsletters keep multiplying.

Smore makes a good-looking newsletter in minutes, so everyone at school makes one. Each arrives as its own email, and each is long.

Every teacher has one

A weekly class newsletter per teacher, per kid. Specials teachers often send their own.

The principal, the PTA, the library

Each office runs its own Smore, on its own schedule.

The dates are buried

A newsletter mixes photos, shout-outs, curriculum notes and the one line about the field trip form.

Often just a link

Many arrive as a short email with a "view newsletter" button. Reading means opening each one in a browser.

What parents try

Reading them all is not the answer either.

Read every newsletter

Ten minutes each, several a week, per kid. Most of it is lovely and none of it needs doing.

Skim for bold text

Teachers bold different things. The deadline is not always the bold part.

Screenshot the date

Then the screenshot sits in your camera roll next to the other screenshots.

How it works

You forward it. Sense keeps the dates.

Step 01

Forward the email

Verify your email address in Sense once, then forward Smore emails to share@getsense.ai. Digests and attachments included.

Step 02

Sense reads every one

It pulls out the dates, times, what to bring, and anything to sign or pay. Emails with nothing to schedule are left alone.

Step 03

It is on the calendar

Events land on your family calendar, with reminders for deadlines, so everyone sees the same plan.

Or let all of it flow in on its own

Premium lets you set up a Gmail filter that sends every one of these emails to your personal Sense address the moment it arrives. Sense reads each one, adds what has a date, and ignores the rest. How to set up auto-forwarding.

What it costs

The free plan covers 10 emails a month for the whole family, which is enough to forward the ones that matter. A busy school on auto-forward will need Premium, which is unlimited. See pricing.

A week of Smore

What lands on the calendar, and what does not.

On the family calendar

  • Pumpkin patch trip - Fri Oct 23
  • Book Fair - Oct 26-30
  • Science project due - Thu Oct 22

Left in the inbox

  • Principal's Corner: October
  • PTA Monthly Newsletter
  • Music Department Update
  • Counselor's Corner
  • Lincoln Lions Athletics

Forwarding a Smore newsletter

Forward the email as it is. If it only has a link, Sense opens the Smore page and reads the whole newsletter, including dates that only appear in images. You do not need to copy the text out first.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can Sense read a Smore newsletter that is only a link?

Yes. Sense follows the Smore link in the email and reads the full newsletter page.

How do I add Smore newsletter events to my calendar?

Forward the newsletter email to Sense. It adds each date to your family calendar, which can connect to Google Calendar.

What if the date is in an image in the newsletter?

Sense reads images too, so a date on a flyer image in the newsletter still gets picked up.

Does it work with newsletters sent through ParentSquare or SchoolMessenger?

Yes. However the newsletter reaches you, forward that email and Sense reads it.
