Family calendar on Alexa

Enable the Sense skill on Alexa and use any Echo device as a voice front-end for your family calendar. Add events, set reminders, mark chores done, hear today's schedule - all without picking up a phone.

All input methods

How it works

  1. Enable the Sense skill

Open the Alexa app, find "Sense" in Skills, tap Enable.

  2. Link your account

Sign in with the same email and password you use for Sense. One link covers every Echo in your house.

  3. Say "Alexa, ask Sense to..."

Add an event, set a reminder, list today's schedule. The change syncs to everyone's phone instantly.

What you can say

  • "Add an event"

"Alexa, ask Sense to add Ayaan's piano lesson Saturday at 10 am." Lands on your family calendar.

  • "Add a reminder"

"Alexa, ask Sense to remind me to pack soccer cleats tonight." Pings you when the time comes.

  • "What's today?"

"Alexa, ask Sense what's on today." Hear the full family schedule for the day, read aloud.

  • "What reminders do I have?"

"Alexa, ask Sense for my reminders." Get the open-reminder list out loud.

  • "Mark a chore done"

"Alexa, ask Sense to mark trash done." Updates the chore tracker and earns the kid their feathers.

  • "Tell me a bedtime story"

"Alexa, ask Sense for a bedtime story." Sense reads an original story tuned to your kid.

Where the Echo earns its spot

  • The kitchen counter

Hands sticky with dough. Just say it - the calendar updates while you keep cooking.

  • Bedroom & bedtime

Set tomorrow's reminders while you wind down. Bedtime story for the 4-year-old, schedule readout for you.

  • Echo Auto in the car

Coach just mentioned next week's away game. Add it before you forget by the time you park.

  • Multi-kid households

Specify the kid by name: "Alexa, ask Sense to add piano for Ayaan Saturday at 10." Routes to the right calendar.

  • Both parents adding events

Anyone in the household can use the linked Echo - additions land on the shared family calendar.

  • Echo Show in the kitchen

Pair the voice flow with the visual Sense Hub display mode on a tablet for a complete kitchen command center.

Frequently asked

  • Which Alexa devices does the Sense skill work on?

Any Alexa-enabled device - Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Auto, Fire TV, and Alexa on phones and tablets. The same linked account works across all of them.

  • Does Alexa know which family member is talking?

No - Alexa identifies the household, not who's speaking. Events go to the linked Sense account's family. If you want to add an event for a specific kid, say their name: "Add piano practice for Ayaan Saturday at 10."

  • Do I need an Alexa account, a Sense account, or both?

Both. You enable the Sense skill from the Alexa app, then sign in with your Sense account to link them. After that, voice commands flow from Alexa to your family calendar.

  • What can the Sense Alexa skill actually do?

Add events, add reminders, list today's events, list upcoming reminders, mark a chore complete, get a bedtime story, and ask Sense general family questions.
