Compass school app

Another Compass notification. Sense keeps only the dates.

News items, events, excursion consents, curriculum days, newsletters. When one has a date, share or screenshot it into Sense and it lands on your family calendar, with a reminder for anything you need to approve or pay.

The volume

Why Compass never goes quiet.

Compass runs news, events, attendance, reports and payments for the school. Every teacher and office posts to the same feed, and each post can notify you.

A notification per news item

The principal, the year level, the swimming program, lost property. Each post is its own alert.

The email only says "log in"

Compass emails usually tell you there is a new item and ask you to log in to read it. The date is not in the email.

Events need a consent and a payment

An excursion arrives as an event, then a consent, then a payment reminder.

Per child, per campus

Two children means two sets of year-level news on top of the whole-school feed.

What parents try

The usual fixes trade one problem for another.

Turn off notifications

Quieter, until the curriculum day nobody told you about.

Scroll the news feed

Priority posts float to the top, so the date you need is often further down.

Sync the Compass schedule

Compass can share a calendar link for a schedule, which is useful for classes. It does not pull the dates out of news items and newsletters.

How it works

You share it. Sense keeps the dates.

Step 01

Share or screenshot it

When a Compass item has a date, share it to Sense or screenshot it and share the screenshot. Newsletter PDFs work too.

Step 02

Sense reads it

Sense picks out the dates, times, what to bring, and anything to sign or pay.

Step 03

It is on the calendar

Events land on your family calendar, with reminders for deadlines, so everyone sees the same plan.

What it costs

The free plan covers 10 items a month for the whole family. Premium is unlimited, and adds chores, meal planning and the Sense Hub. See pricing.

A week of Compass

What lands on the calendar, and what does not.

On the family calendar

  • Zoo excursion - Thu 29 Oct
  • Curriculum day, no school - Mon 2 Nov
  • Athletics carnival - Fri 30 Oct

Left in the inbox

  • New news item: Principal's update
  • New news item: Swimming program week 3
  • New news item: Lost property
  • New news item: Prep transition
  • New news item: Uniform shop hours

Getting Compass items into Sense

Because Compass emails rarely include the post itself, share it instead. Screenshot the news item or event in the Compass app and share the screenshot to Sense, or share the newsletter PDF. Sense reads it and adds the dates. If your school emails the newsletter as an attachment, forwarding that email works too.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can I forward Compass emails to Sense?

You can, but most Compass emails only say there is a new item to read. Sense needs the content, so screenshot the item in the Compass app, or share the newsletter PDF, and send that to Sense instead.

How do I get Compass events onto my family calendar?

Screenshot or share the event from Compass to Sense. Sense reads the date, time and details and adds it to your family calendar, which can connect to Google Calendar.

Will Sense remind me about the consent or payment?

Yes. A consent or pay-by date becomes a reminder, separate from the excursion itself.

Is Sense part of Compass?

No. Sense is a separate family organiser, so the school does not need to change anything.
