Connect your other calendars
You almost certainly already keep a calendar somewhere - Google, Apple, or Outlook. Sense connects to all of them the same way, through a calendar link (an "ICS" or "webcal" address). That means there's no account to log into and nothing to give Sense access to beyond a single link. Everything lives in one place: Settings → Connected Calendars, which has two halves - Import to Sense (bring calendars in) and Export from Sense (send Sense out).
Bring a calendar into Sense
Under Import to Sense, tap + to add a calendar, paste its link, and choose how you want it connected:
- Subscribe - a live, read-only mirror. Sense checks the source about once an hour and keeps itself in step. Best for calendars someone else maintains, like a school or sports team. You can't edit these events in Sense, because they belong to the other calendar.
- Import - a one-time copy you can edit. Best when you want to pull events in once and then manage them yourself. It won't update if the source changes later.
When you add one, you'll set a name, pick a color (so its events are easy to spot), and optionally assign it to a family member. Links starting with https or webcal both work.
Where to find a calendar's link
Grab the link from wherever the calendar lives, then paste it into Sense:
Google Calendar (on a computer)
- Open Google Calendar and go to Settings.
- Under Settings for my calendars, click the calendar you want.
- Scroll to Integrate calendar and copy the Secret address in iCal format.
Apple / iCloud calendar
- On iCloud.com, open Calendar and click the share icon next to the calendar.
- Turn on Public Calendar and copy the link it shows (it starts with
webcal://).
Outlook.com
- In Outlook Calendar settings, open Shared calendars.
- Under Publish a calendar, pick the calendar and permission, then copy the ICS link.
See Sense in your other calendar
Want your Sense events to show up in Google or Apple Calendar too? Under Export from Sense, copy your private Sense calendar link. There's a combined family link and a link per member, so you can subscribe to just one person if you like. Then add it wherever you want to see it:
- Google Calendar: next to "Other calendars," click + → From URL, paste the link, and add it.
- Apple Calendar: File → New Calendar Subscription (Mac), or Settings → Calendar → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar (iPhone).
- Outlook: Add calendar → Subscribe from web, then paste the link.
The Sense feed is read-only in those apps, so it never changes your Sense data - it just lets you see the same schedule everywhere.
Good to know
- Subscribed calendars refresh roughly hourly, so a brand-new event can take a little while to appear. That's normal.
- If you need to edit an event that came from another calendar, use Import (a copy you own) instead of Subscribe.
- You can't subscribe Sense to its own family feed - Sense will tell you if you try.
Common questions
Is this two-way sync?
No - it's two one-way links, which keeps things predictable. Importing brings a calendar into Sense; exporting shows Sense elsewhere. Nothing you create in Sense is written back into your Google or Apple calendar.
Will my Sense events double up?
Only if you both import a calendar into Sense and subscribe to Sense's feed from that same calendar. Pick one direction per calendar and you'll never see duplicates.
