Calendar Sync

Two-way sync with Google Calendar

Two-way sync connects Sense to the Google Calendar you already use. Your Google events show up in Sense, events Sense creates land in the Google calendar you choose, and an edit or delete on either side shows up on the other. There's no link to copy and paste - you sign in with Google once and Sense keeps the two in step.

What syncs

  • Google to Sense. Events from the Google calendars you turn on appear on your Sense calendar, in the color and family member you pick.
  • Sense to Google. Events added in Sense - by hand, from a forwarded email, or from chat - go to the Google calendar you choose.
  • Changes both ways. Move, rename, or delete an event in either app and the other follows, usually within a minute or two. Recurring events sync as a series.

Connect your Google account

  1. In Sense, open Settings → Connected Calendars and tap + under Calendars in Sense.
  2. Choose Google Calendar, then tap Continue with Google.
  3. Sign in to Google and leave both permission boxes checked. Sense needs to see your list of calendars and to view and edit their events.
  4. Head back to Sense. Under From Your Accounts, turn on the calendars you want to sync and tap Save.
  5. Optionally, tap a calendar to set its color and who it shows as, so your work calendar shows as yours and the kids' activities as Everyone's.

Choose where Sense events go

Events that start in Sense stay inside Sense until you pick a Google calendar for them. This step is easy to miss, and it's what makes events you add in Sense show up on your phone's Google Calendar.

  1. In Settings → Connected Calendars, find Add events to Google.
  2. Pick a calendar. Your main Google calendar is marked Suggested.

Your upcoming Sense events are added to that calendar right away, not just new ones. If you switch to a different calendar later, new events go there and the ones already in Google stay where they are. To stop sending events, choose Keep Sense events out of Google.

Read-only calendars

Some calendars show a Read-only tag. Those are calendars you subscribed to in Google rather than own - holidays, a school feed, or a calendar someone shared with view-only access. Google only lets Sense read them, so their events come into Sense but changes made in Sense can't be sent back.

More than one Google account

Connect as many Google accounts as you like - a personal and a work account, for example. Each adult in the family can connect their own. Every account is listed under Accounts with its calendars, and the calendar picker shows which account each calendar belongs to.

Common questions

I used to sync Google with a calendar link. Do I still need it?

No. If you added your Google calendar's Secret address in iCal format before, remove that subscription once two-way sync is on, or you'll see each event twice. The same goes for subscribing to your Sense calendar link from inside Google - with two-way sync, Sense events are already real Google events.

What if Sense says Reconnect?

Google sometimes asks you to sign in again, for example after a password change or if access was removed in your Google account settings. Tap Reconnect under Accounts and sign in. Syncing picks up where it left off.

What happens if I disconnect?

Its calendars stop syncing and the events they brought in are removed from Sense. Events you created in Sense stay in Sense, and anything already written to Google stays in Google.

Can I sync Apple or Outlook calendars both ways?

Not yet - two-way sync is Google only for now. You can still bring Apple and Outlook calendars in with a calendar link. See What calendars Sense syncs with.

Two-way Google Calendar sync is part of Premium.
