Calendar Sync

Connect your iCloud calendars

Connect your iCloud account and the calendars in the Calendar app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac show up in Sense. Nothing needs to be made public. Events stay in step automatically, including edited and deleted days of repeating events.

For now, iCloud syncs one way: from iCloud into Sense. Edit iCloud events in Apple Calendar. Sending changes made in Sense back to iCloud is coming.

1. Create an app-specific password

Apple doesn't let other apps sign in to iCloud with your Apple ID password. Instead you make a separate password just for Sense. Your Apple ID needs two-factor authentication turned on, which most already have.

  1. Go to account.apple.com and sign in.
  2. Open Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Tap +, name it Sense, and copy the password. It looks like abcd-efgh-ijkl-mnop.

2. Connect it in Sense

  1. In Sense, open Settings → Connected Calendars and tap Connect a calendar.
  2. Choose Apple Calendar.
  3. Enter the email or phone number you sign in to iCloud with, paste the app-specific password, and tap Connect iCloud.
  4. Choose which calendars to sync and tap Sync.
  5. Optionally, tap a calendar's color dot to set its color and who it shows as.

Changes you make in iCloud show up in Sense within about 20 minutes.

Your password and your privacy

  • An app-specific password can also open iCloud Mail and Contacts. Sense only ever reads your calendars.
  • Sense stores the password encrypted and only sends it to Apple's iCloud servers.
  • You can revoke it any time at account.apple.com under App-Specific Passwords. Sense then stops syncing and asks you to reconnect.

Common questions

It says the password didn't work

Make sure you pasted the app-specific password, not your Apple ID password, and that the Apple ID matches the account you created it on. If you're unsure, create a new one and try again.

I already added iCloud with a public calendar link

Remove the link calendar from Sense after connecting, or each event shows twice. You can then turn Public Calendar off in Apple Calendar.

Sense says Reconnect

Changing your Apple ID password, or revoking the app-specific password, signs Sense out. Create a new app-specific password, tap Reconnect on the iCloud account in Settings → Connected Calendars, and enter it.

A calendar I see on my iPhone isn't listed

Only iCloud calendars are listed. Calendars On My iPhone, and Google or Exchange calendars added to your iPhone, aren't stored in iCloud. Connect those at the source with Google two-way sync or Outlook two-way sync. Reminders lists aren't calendars, so they don't appear either.

What happens if I disconnect?

Its calendars stop syncing and the events they brought in are removed from Sense. Nothing changes in iCloud. Delete the app-specific password at account.apple.com too.
